JORDANA’S STILL GOT IT WITH NEW TRACK ‘STILL DO’
If Clairo reigns as the queen of bedroom pop, LA-based artist Jordana resides comfortably as its princess. A veteran of the scene, her indie legacy was cemented in the fall of 2021 with her TV Girl collaboration EP, Summer’s Over (from which her highest streaming song, “Better in the Dark” was born, currently sitting at almost 230 million Spotify listens). While Summer’s Over has remained her most successful and critically acclaimed release, Jordana has been consistently releasing music on streaming platforms since 2018 (see her first official release, “Canvas”), and shows no signs of slowing soon (thank goodness!!). On the coattails of 2024’s Lively Premonition, Jordana has officially begun the rollout of her new upcoming album, Jordanaland, with its lead single, “Still Do”.
Officially released on August 26th after multiple online teases, “Still Do” is an upbeat, melancholic song that hones in on the feeling of knowing that you deserve better, but not being able to stop your feelings for the one hurting you. The chorus is poignant and drives the song's meaning home like a stake to the heart.
I'm getting older and the scars keep hurting
Don't wanna tell you that I love you
But I still do
But I still do (love you)
But I still do, but I still do
How can you stop the feeling of loving someone, even while knowing they’re not good for you? The song begins with booming bass drums, framing Jordana’s soft voice perfectly, while the strumming of an acoustic guitar binds everything together. Despite the subject matter, the song is catchy, and it’s easy to catch yourself humming it throughout the day following your first listen.
Perhaps most exciting, though, is the release of an accompanying music video, which is what was being used to initially promote and tease the song to fans. It begins as a news report on a woman who’s, according to Jordana, is “laid down in protest, attempting to collect signatures from civilians to recognise herself as her own sovereign nation.” The opening vocals are temporarily interrupted as a man yells for Jordana to get off his lawn (as if anyone in real life would ever do that!), but her words quickly snap back into focus. The camera mimics this as the video shifts from grainy, VHS-style film to high-definition footage. Jordana walks away in a stunning emerald-green dress and corset as a scroll slowly unrolls behind her. The video is intriguing, fun, and entertaining, all in the best ways. Jordana utilizes the idea of Jordanaland to literally bring listeners into her own world of whimsy, and it’s completely successful. Her style of music is enchanting, and the music video fully encompasses this.
This single makes it abundantly clear that Jordana has grown into her throne as the princess of the modern indie-pop movement. When compared to her previously mentioned 2018 debut single, “Canvas”, “Still Do” perfectly supports this idea, from the content of the lyrics to the way that Jordana struts down the street in her enchanting green dress. Her voice has matured, and per the song lyrics, she knows her worth.
Be ready to grab your passport (through the Grand Jury Music label on all streaming platforms!) and move to Jordanaland on November 7th.
