CANNONS IS BACK ON TOUR TO LEAVE AN EVERLASTING AFTERGLOW ON AMERICA
roadrunner — boston, ma
Fresh off the release of their new album Everything Glows, Cannons has embarked on THE AFTERGLOW TOUR with Bob Moses to bring their enchanting sound across the country. I heard one of their most popular songs, “Fire For You,”on a hit Netflix show years ago, and I truly believe it shifted something in my soul when it came to music. It is one of those songs that just truly stuck with me. I could listen to it forever and never get bored.
Fast forward to seeing them live at Roadrunner in Boston, MA, performing many songs off of the new album, such as “Starlight”, “Carousel”, and “These Nights”, which introduced the audience to the ethereal vibes of Everything Glows-a continuation of their unique sound. Their music is the kind to leave you searching for more after finding it, almost like a siren calling to sailors out to sea.
Their stage setup and presence was on theme with their soothing yet hypnotic sound, displaying a gust of fog to mix with the hazy purple, pinks, blues, and gold hues just as a mid-summer sunset would paint the sky. The combination of warmth from the colors and haziness of the fog, mixed with Michelle Joy’s captivating, dreamy voice with layers of instrumentals throughout the songs, created quite the escape.
This perfectly aligns with their goal to share a (personal to the band) slice of heaven and escape from reality that they create through their music, as Michelle explained before playing “Take Me To Tokyo” also from their latest album release. You can truly feel the escapism through this new album, which seems to be more personal to them than past projects.
Despite playing a lot of their music from more recent years, they took us back to about 12 years prior when they played “Up All Night” off one of their first EPs, which still carries their consistent float-worthy style. Michelle also reminisced on those days when she was incredibly nervous just to play at a small bar, and now they're going on this tour that includes stops at the Brooklyn Paramount, Red Rocks, and the Hollywood Bowl.
Catching their hour-long set at Roadrunner was a privilege enough, and has thoroughly increased my admiration for this band with so much history. Their success over the past few years is well deserved, and should definitely continue to climb post THE AFTERGLOW TOUR. Catch them on this tour until mid July, so you can also witness the absolutely enchanting, ethereal, escapism dream that is their discography.
