COSETTE SETS THE BAR FOR OPENING ACTS AS SHE DAZZLES THE ROXY

THE ROXY — LOS ANGELES, CA

February 12th marked the penultimate night of English artist Erin LeCount’s LA LUNE TOUR, closing things out with two sold-out nights at The Roxy, a legendary venue in Los Angeles. Joining her for the shows was multi-hyphenate (that is, singer, songwriter, and producer) Cosette, who was tasked with getting the party started. It didn’t take long to realize that’s exactly where she thrives.

From the moment she hit the stage, she looked like a glittering mermaid with legs: cascading hair, a sunshine grin, and a stunning two-piece set that glittered under every flicker of the stage lights. She had no intention of letting the night’s energy dip on her watch. Without missing a beat, she impressively captured the crowd's attention, holding it through the entirety of her set, commanding the audience with a level of unfiltered enthusiasm I’ve rarely seen from an opener—all while showing zero signs of nerves as she faced the packed venue. Instead, she invited us to dance into her world as she twirled, danced, and sang with so much enjoyment that it was as if she had turned The Roxy into her own personal hyper-pop playground.

Cosette’s appearance directly reflected her sound, with shimmering, self-produced pop beats with stunning vocal stacks and harmonies. Throughout the set, she floated her way to a production booth set up on the stage, where she transformed into a DJ, bouncing with the crowd as the lights flashed in sync with live-produced energetic beats.

One of my favorite things an artist can do is make a performance interactive, and that’s exactly what Cosette did. She handed out glowing, light-up orbs for the crowd to pass around and dance with, turning a mesmerizing performance into a vibrant memory. While the crowd passed around the orbs, she pulled her Ableton Push controller off her booth to walk the edge of the stage, letting those at the front make music with her, immersing them in the music and letting us dance to it.

Between songs, she opened up about a multi-year situationship that inspired one of her songs, laughing along when someone shouted “Heated Rivalry!”—a hilarious and fitting reference to pop culture's latest, favorite, long-term situationship, which has taken the world by storm. After her set, I immediately went to Spotify to save “Rain”, one of my favorite songs on her setlist—along with a seemingly unreleased track where she confessed, “I believe in you like magic, I was living in your hat,” likening herself to a magician’s rabbit. The metaphor felt fitting: Cosette had put us under her own spell.
