EVERYTHING EVERYTHING ROLLED BACK THE YEARS AT ROCK CITY TO CELEBRATE 10 YEARS OF ‘GET TO HEAVEN’

ROCK CITY — NOTTINGHAM, ENG

British art-rockers Everything Everything embarked on their 10 Year Anniversary Tour for their 2015 album Get to Heaven, performing the record in full. They arrived at a sold-out Rock City in Nottingham on a Monday night, fresh from a hometown show in Manchester just days earlier.

The support act, Lime Garden, set the tone for the evening with a set radiating raw energy and spirited rock. The Brighton-based four-piece shifted effortlessly between surfer-style guitar lines, disco-infused grooves, and bursts of full electronica. Their blend of hi- and lo-fi beats made each track irresistibly danceable, warming up the crowd with ease.

The stage glowed in deep magenta and green neon as Everything Everything emerged to the rising hum of “To The Blade”, launching the night in dramatic fashion. The lighting flared during the chorus and softened during the song’s more introspective moments, enhancing the emotional waves of the performance. Funk-driven guitar lines and choral-style vocals set the atmosphere for the rest of the set. Long-unplayed tracks like "Fortune 500” and “Blast Doors”, absent from live shows since 2016, were greeted with huge enthusiasm, the audience singing every word.

All members took the stage in coordinated outfits, with the exception of frontman Jonathan Higgs, who donned a cult-like robe. The minimalist staging placed the music firmly in the spotlight, allowing the album’s rich textures and intricate arrangements to shine. A decade on, Get to Heaven still resonates deeply with fans. Its reflections on societal pressure, political unrest, and existential uncertainty feel as urgent now as they did upon release. The band delivered these themes with emotional clarity, their performance capturing both the album’s volatility and its more fragile moments.

During the encore, they launched into the explosive “Hapsburg Lippp”, surprisingly a track never performed live before this tour. Its pounding bass and tightly wound vocal delivery made it a standout moment, perfectly suited to a live setting. This was followed by a powerful rendition of “No Reptiles”, belted back by the crowd with unrestrained passion, before they closed the main set with the soothing yet triumphant “Warm Healer”. Just as the audience began to accept that the night was over, the band returned for one final surprise, an encore of their 2024 song “Cold Reactor”, its lingering keys echoing throughout the venue as fans slowly filtered out into the night.

Tonight’s show at Rock City reaffirmed why Everything Everything continues to captivate listeners across the world. Their set overflowed with energy, precision, and creativity, offering a vivid reminder of the band’s ability to craft performances that are as thoughtful as they are exhilarating.
