IDKHOW MAKE A POST-TOUR RETURN TO UTAH FOR AN INTIMATE HOMETOWN GIG
VELOUR LIVE MUSIC GALLERY — PROVO, UT
I Don’t Know How But They Found Me surprised their home state with a last-minute show at the Velour Live Music Gallery to close out their LIMITED ENGAGEMENT TOUR. The band wrapped the tour at this smaller venue for a more intimate show, and with frontman Dallon Weekes explaining they chose to play there because he had played there a few times in his previous band, The Brobecks. Fans sold out the Provo show quickly, excited to spend their Wednesday night with their favorite local band.
The band began their set with “Modern Day Cain” and “Bleed Magic”, and a few songs in they introduced the band members to the audience, with Weekes emphasizing how good it feels to be home. Halfway through the set during “DOWNSIDE”, Weekes began dealing with technical difficulties with his microphone for over a minute. He dealt with it professionally, continuing to interact with the crowd, sing, dance, and communicate with the stage tech without missing a single beat. The crowd never faltered through his recovery, singing the song for him until he could again.
The set was smooth sailing from there, with most of the songs coming from their latest album release, GLOOM DIVISION. When playing the lead single “WHAT LOVE?”, Weekes jokingly said that anyone under the age of 25 was required to leave because the song was too mature for them. When ending the song, he asked anyone over the age of 25 to invite the younger fans back to the show. After the GLOOM DIVISION tracks, the band treated the crowd to an unreleased treat with, “Make a Lot of Money”. After this, Weekes introduced “Kiss Goodnight” by giving a shoutout to his wife, the subject of the song and who was there to support him.
iDKHOW has been known to play old The Brobecks songs in their sets, and this night was no exception as they played fan favorite “Visitation of a Ghost”. Weekes split the crowd down the middle during the song, stepped down into the audience, and sang with the crowd into a megaphone, only asking that the crowd respect his personal space to keep everyone safe. On this night’s show, he walked all the way to the back of the venue to where his wife was watching from and gave her a kiss before running back through the split in the crowd back to the stage. The band then finished off with “Choke” before coming back for the encore.
The encore consisted of three songs, starting with “Clusterhug”. During the second song, “Nobody Likes the Opening Band”, they emphasized that we should always respect openers and that, at that particular show, they were technically the openers because only they had played. The last song of the night comes from iDKHOW’s debut album with the same name, “Razzmatazz”, which has been their closing song for years. This last minute gig proved that iDKHOW can surprise their home state with a show any day, and their home state will always show up for them.
