JENNA RAINE KEEPS GROWING IN SALT LAKE
KILBY COURT — SALT LAKE CITY, UT
Jenna Raine had a successful ending to the ONLY STARTED GROWING TOUR in Salt Lake City with a sold out show at Kilby Court. Ava Liv Mabry opened the show and got the crowd warmed up for the night. Jenna and her band then started their set at full speed with “Cruise Control”. Her energy kept the crowd going the whole set, encouraging them to dance and sing with her. Between songs she mentioned how Salt Lake is like a second home to her, making this show a special one. Many members of her family had come into town from out of state to support her, including her nieces, singing along at the front to add to the feeling of Salt Lake being home.
Jenna displayed her many talents throughout the night, switching between guitar to the piano for different songs on top of her singing. When she wasn’t playing an instrument she was dancing with the crowd, getting as close to them as she could. Kilby Court’s low stage let her be among the crowd in what became special moments. The crowd burst with energy when fan favorite “It Is What It Is” played, marking the halfway point of the setlist.
At this point, the setlist calmed down, with Jenna playing some slower songs and letting the crowd catch their breath. This included letting the crowd hear an unreleased song called “Donny’s World”. She continued with “Hitch Hiking”, and “She’s There”, and finished off this part of the setlist with a cover of Coldplay’s “Yellow”.
The energy picked up again after this with Jenna backing away from her piano and guitar to sing “What Are Friends For”, which she introduced as a song she wrote when dealing with a friend who was seeing a guy that Jenna thought was no good, and then having to comfort them when things went badly. Instead of being angry at her friend she chose to be there for her and wrote that song about it. The crowd laughed at the story, with many raising their hands when Jenna asked if they’d ever gone through something similar.
For the next four songs, Jenna had the freedom to dance and move around the stage as she wanted, unhindered by having to play an instrument and being able to connect with the crowd more. She only returned to her piano to play “See You Later” and then ended the night with “Roses”; this song had the line, “Don’t go killin’ all my roses, cause I’ve only started growin’”, which was the inspiration for the tour’s name, making it the perfect song to end on and leaving the crowd on a good note with its positive message.
