THE BROBECKS CELEBRATE 20 YEARS OF ‘HAPPIEST NUCLEAR WINTER’

THE GRAND @ THE COMPLEX — SALT LAKE CITY, UT

Local Salt Lake City band, The Brobecks, reunited to celebrate the 20-year anniversary of their second album, Happiest Nuclear Winter, with a one-night-only show at The Grand at The Complex. The concert followed a special documentary screening following the band’s journey through the beginning, leading up to the show that fans were able to attend the night before. Numerous fans traveled from out of state for either the documentary, the concert, or both, with excitement to see their favorite band that had been inactive for over a decade.

The band’s original lineup of Dallon Weekes, Mike Gross, Matt Glass, and Bryan Szymanski played the whole album cover to cover from C’mon Vietnam to She’s a Robot. Weekes introduced A Letter”, saying he plays it with his other band, I Don’t Know How But They Found Me, because it was one of his favorites. During the song, the crowd was assigned different harmonies to sing, letting them be a part of the song. When played live with IDKHow, the vocals heard are prerecorded by Brobeck’s drummer Matt Glass, but for this performance, Glass spoke the vocals live, making this a very special performance for long time fans. The rest of the songs were sung either by Weekes or Gross, with both having exceptional vocals. Their encore ended with Goodnight Socialitefrom their album Violent Things and explained that they would close their sets with that song when they played together 20 years ago, giving fans the original experience as they closed the show.
