THE RETURN OF VACATIONS: THE HOLY GRAIL TOUR KICKS OFF IN LA
TROUBADOUR - LOS ANGELES, CA
Vacations officially kicked off their HOLY GRAIL TOUR this past Tuesday in Los Angeles, California. This run marks the end of an almost year-long hiatus from the group, however it appears they’re making up for lost time with multiple appearances across North America, Asia, and Australia. This night was just the first of three sold-out shows at the Troubadour, proving that we missed Vacations just as much as they missed us.
Opening up the evening was the LA-based trio, Tin Angel, and angelic is the perfect adjective to describe this group. Each member was draped in all white, guitar in hand, and their ethereal harmonies encompassed the room. In between songs such as "Know the Way" and "Couch Song," their playful commentary and banter between each other made them that much more loveable.
Murmurs within the crowd began to swell as crew members prepared the scene. One by one, candles began to cover the stage, and anticipation grew with each one. Cheers erupted as guitarist Nate Delizzoti made a quick appearance, giving a minor glimpse into the energy that awaited the group. Soon thereafter, the lights dimmed, leaving only the flicker of candlelight under the fluorescent blue ‘Troubadour” sign, and Vacations made their entrance.
Their setlist combined favorites from their previous three albums, Changes,Forever in Bloom, and No Place Like Home, along with new music that is yet to be released. The crowd roared over fan favorites such as "Midwest" and "Young," along with the live debut of their latest single, "Holy Grail." Lyrics echoed off the walls of the Troubadour, the crowd following word for word in a sea of perfect unison.
While they may have taken the past year off from touring, it was evident that Vacations haven’t missed a beat.
They’ve been hard at work in the studio, crafting new music that fans have been craving. We were treated to a few teases, with performances of "Ready or Not" and "Last Call" from the upcoming album. If these are any indication of what is to come, then I can confidently say that it will be worth the wait.
The night successfully came to a close with the ever-anticipated "Telephones" and "Relax," before one last eruption from the crowd as Vacations made their exit.
This marked the beginning for what is seeming to be a killer year for the Aussie group. With various show dates throughout the summer, and their fourth album Pursuit of Anything coming in October, it’s safe to say that Vacations won’t be leaving us anytime soon.
