“We are Pond, and you are the great people of Los Angeles!”
These are the words that rang through the Bellwether on Tuesday night as Pond brought the final show of the TERRESTRIALS TOUR for their new album Terrestrials to the City of Angels. The Aussie group is well-known for their psychedelic rock sound paired with their infectious, high energy performances, and tonight would prove to be no different.
The intermittent murmurs of the crowd came to a dead halt as the lights of the Bellwether dimmed. One by one, the silhouettes of the group began to emerge through the smoke that engulfed the stage. Suddenly, the venue illuminated in a bright red hue as the first notes of "Skyworks" rang out.
While most performers choose to start out slow, it was evident that Pond was going against the grain.
Frontman Nick Allbrook wasted no time covering every inch of the stage. In an almost chaotic manner, he gallivanted from one end to another before immersing himself into the crowd during "Black Lung."
The night carried on, the energy never once dropping in either the band or the fans. As I made my way through the crowds, all I saw were smiles that were miles wide. Friends gathered in circles, dancing while radiating pure bliss. Bubbles appeared from somewhere deep within the pit while the melody of "Sweep Me Off My Feet" played, and fans echoed every word. Crowd favorites "Paint Me Silver" and "Terrestrials" were quickly followed by a cover of MC5’s "Kick Out The Jams" that officially brought the night to an end.
Pond provides a show that is truly one of a kind, with an energy that carries with you long after you exit the venue doors. While this might be the end of their US run, they’ll be bringing the TERRESTRIALS TOUR back home to Australia this December.
