NATHAN EVANS AND SAINT PHNX PAY HOMAGE TO SCOTLAND AND BROTHERHOOD ON THEIR COLLABORATIVE ALBUM ‘ANGELS’ SHARE’
Scottish folk tradition finds its voice with Angels’ Share, the latest collaborative album by Nathan Evans and SAINT PHNX. It is a true manifesto of love, loss, and the search for something greater.
The project came together simply and effortlessly. The artists themselves describe it as “the smoothest process [they’ve'] ever been involved in,” adding that “everything was fun and natural,” without any pressure or disputes. When it was time to put the demos together, everything fell into place. It was a collaboration that was meant to happen, and it came about with ease. The chemistry between the artists is so strong and solid that they don’t need many words; they say that even during live performances, there’s no need to communicate explicitly, as they instinctively know where and how to move without causing any disruption. There is a true sense of brotherhood among them, and they now consider themselves a family. Nathan himself describes himself as an “adopted brother” of SAINT PHNX.
The album opens with “Angels’ Share,” the track that represents the whole project and also gives its title and identity to the entire collaboration. The idea was born from a shared passion among the artists: traditional whisky, which they say they have come to love. During the whisky aging process, a portion of the liquid evaporates through the barrels in which it is stored, and that vapor is what gives the spirit its characteristic flavor and identity. This lost portion is known as the “Angel’s Share.” Hence, the title of the album, which also explores the concept of losing someone important who, in a way, will never completely disappear. The idea behind this choice brings together all the elements of the project: loss, whisky, Islay, and brotherhood.
When asked about the three most significant tracks on the album, the choices fell on “Angels’ Share”, “Milarrochy Bay”, and “Islay”. These songs tell the story of the two brothers and their friend, embracing the Scottish essence that all three artists have deeply fallen in love with and take pride in.
Angels’ Share is a powerful album, full of life and passion. It conveys a shared love for their land and heritage, song after song. It is a heartfelt and intentional collaboration that makes you feel at home with every chord.
