BENEE BRINGS HER ALT-POP SPARK TO THE NEW YORK CITY STAGE
IRVING PLAZA — NEW YORK, NY
BENEE has made her return to the Big Apple for the first time in almost two years, once again to the iconic Irving Plaza, this time in support of her new album Ur An Angel, I’m Just Particles. BENEE is midway through her 23-city US and Canada tour in support of her new album.
She opened the set upwith three tracks off the new album: “Sad Boiii,” “Cinnamon,” and “Vegas,” three of the most infectious melodies that stay true to her M.O: deeply personal lyrics, atop poppy beats with the kind of flare and attitude that only a Gen Z’er can pull off. And she speaks the language between songs, and then snaps right to being a grade A performer when the beat drops.
The New Zealand born singer songwriter dazzled the packed crowd of eager onlookers in her signature boots, bedazzled mic stand, and hairclips. She even passed a few of her handmade hair clips out to a few lucky fans on the barricade.
The twenty-song setlist consisted mostly of songs from her new album, but included a few older deep cuts from ‘baby BENEE,’ such as “Soaked” and “Wishful Thinking.” In the final run of songs, she of course played her super smash hit, “Supalonely,” which initially skyrocketed her to a viral sensation back in 2020, but Ur An Angel, I’m Just Particles is her digging the heels of her fuzzy boots in and letting the world know she’s here to stay. Closing out the set was “Off The Rails” and the hyperpop anthem “Green Honda.”
