FAI LACI BREAKS THE SOUND BARRIER IN SAN DIEGO
THE CASBAH - SAN DIEGO, CA
Fai Laci truly doesn’t know what an off-day is. Intertwined with an extensive summer supporting The Black Keys, Winyah, and Dog Park, they’ve set off on their first ever headlining tour. The ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM tour made its California debut with a chaotic explosion that only this group can provide.
Walking up to the Casbah, it was a seemingly quaint, quiet Tuesday night in San Diego. However, once the doors opened, it was evident that the night was going to be anything but calm. The show began with San Diego’s very own Exotic Fruit Tour. Known for their psychedelic funk sound, including a euphoric Rush x Gaga medley that left my jaw on the floor, they perfectly encapsulate the essence of San Diego.
Second on the docket was Trestles. I’ve been a long-time fan of Trestles, (catch a review of their last tour here) but they have come miles since the last time I saw them. The energy from the group was infectious, and filled every inch of the space. Songs such as "Bones" had the crowd echoing every lyric.
The cheers never faltered as Fai Laci made their entrance. While many groups ease into the set, the Boston-based band wasted no time breaking the sound barrier. An electric setlist armed with songs such as "Sarasota," "Elephant," and "She Knows," combined with an equally energetic crowd, had the decades-old walls of the Casbah vibrating.
Halfway through their performance, frontman Luke Faillaci took a moment to stress to the crowd the importance of human connection and live music, especially in a world where AI is becoming more and more prevalent. Fans roared in agreement before the group jumped into their renditions of “Come Together” by the Beatles and “Folsom Prison Blues” by Johnny Cash. The audience shifted into a swaying sea, each lyric becoming louder than the last. The night came to a close with a fan favorite, "Have You Nothing Left To Say," before the group rushed to the merch table to interact with the crowd that made the night so memorable.
This is setting up to be a monumental year for Fai Laci. Their debut album, Elephant In The Room, is set to release on June 26th, along with a jam-packed summer on the road. If this wasn’t enough, they’re joining the heavy-hitting Austin City Limits lineup later this year. I highly recommend witnessing the magic in person, and dare you to try and not leave a fan.
