THE FRAY: THE SUMMER OF LIGHT TOUR SHINES IN LA
YOUTUBE THEATER - LOS ANGELES, CA
The Fray's massive 37-stop SUMMER OF LIGHTTOUR finally made its landing in Los Angeles, CA, this past Thursday. Eager fans of all ages filled the seats of the YouTube Theater, anxiously awaiting a night that was nothing short of unforgettable.
As iconic as The Fray is, their support for this run is just as legendary. Kicking off the night was Nashville-based 4-piece band Colony House. They have been a longtime favorite of mine, and they commanded the room as if they were the main attraction. (click here for my full review of their set!)
Next up, the one and only Dashboard Confessional. With an hour-long setlist composed of old favorites such as "Vindicated" and "Screaming Infidelities," along with a preview of some upcoming new releases.
The fluorescent overhead lights of the YouTube Theater began to dim, and smoke slowly emerged over the stage. One by one, each member of The Fray assumed their positions until there was only one spot left. Frontman Joe King's silhouette appeared as the beginning notes of "A Light That Waits" rang out and, just like that, the main show started.
King wasted no time connecting with the crowd. He swaggered from one end of the stage to the other, ensuring each and every fan from the pit to the rafters felt seen.
Suddenly, the tempo slowed for the iconic ballads "Look After You," "Never Say Never," and "Over My Head (Cable Car)," leaving not a single dry eye in the building.
I think one of my favorite moments during any performance is when the artist strips a song down to its bare bones. King did just this, providing us with a solo acoustic rendition of "Sea Level Drive." The night concluded with the ever-anticipated "How To Save A Life" (the Grey's Anatomy lover in me was screaming), and a cover of "With A Little Help From My Friends"by The Beatles.
The Fray will be spreading their light all across the United States this summer before taking their talents across the pond for the AUTUMN OF LIGHT TOUR.
